Computer science students graduate into some of the best paying jobs in the market. Average starting salaries for a BSCS are over $50,000 annually, and many students are offered substantially more. Career opportunities are found in diverse industries, including manufacturing, government, research, and service sectors. Did you realize that today’s cars have an average of 24 CPU’s each?

  • Dean Rahmat Shoureshi explains, “We’re looking for students with a passion for research in areas of emerging technologies where the initial reaction is, ‘this can’t be done!’” At DU, we do much more than just talk about research. We get students involved through Undergraduate Research Assistantships (URA’s), where you will help faculty-led teams create new knowledge and technology in emerging areas of computer science.

  • All of the Computer Science department’s professors have earned their doctorates from universities including Duke, M.I.T., and yes, the University of Denver. They are committed to teaching you. Classes are small, so you get to know the professors well, while they learn of your interests and aspirations. Many classes are interdisciplinary and professors frequently team up to provide instruction that’s both broad-ranging and highly focused. Our emphasis is on gaining knowledge, and also on learning how to function in the real world.

  • The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is for students who want to pursue the theory and techniques whereby information is encoded, communicated, transformed and analyzed. The degree involves study of the theory of algorithms, the structure of languages, and the design of programs for solving practical problems. The BS is intended for those who are fascinated by the technical areas of computing or anticipate a graduate degree in computer science.

  • DU’s professors stand at the forefront of those conducting research in some of the most important computer science fields. Did you ever wonder just how video and audio media streams reach your iPhone? In part, it results from work done at DU. Have you heard of SETI, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence?
