Welcome to the University of Denver Department of Computer Science Web site. I invite you to explore the information here to learn more about our department. I think you will find that we offer the best of both research universities and teaching colleges: professors who are experts in their fields, and small classes that provide individual faculty attention.

The Department offers a number of bachelors, masters and PhD degree programs designed to provide an innovative, interdisciplinary education that prepares students in the emerging computer science applications in business and academia.

Our newest BS degrees are in animation and creative game development and bioinformatics. These programs are designed to prepare students for real employment opportunities in the post dot-com world. The BS in computer science degree provides the hard-core science foundation needed for software development jobs in industry, and as preparation for graduate school. Another popular option is our 3-2 program with the Daniels College of Business that offers a BS in computer science and a MBA degree in five years.

Our BA degrees are designed to highlight multidisciplinary study. The BA in animation and creative game development requires a double major in art, digital media studies or electronic media arts design. The BA in Applied Computing focuses on the application of computers in other disciplines such as art, women’s studies, music, geography and environmental science.

We purposely have defined our degrees with flexibility so you can pursue your dream while being competitive for future employment. Internships and our COOP program are an option to increase your work experience.

Our graduate programs allow students to participate in the creation of knowledge in cutting-edge fields within computer science. Our faculty maintain active and sponsored research programs in algorithms, computational geometry, databases, distributed systems, multimedia databases, parallel computers and processing, software engineering, and symbolic algebra, among other areas. In addition to our traditional MS and PhD degrees, we also offer a dual MS and JD degree in conjunction with the DU College of Law, and a joint MS degree in computer science and engineering in collaboration with the Department of Engineering.

I am sure you will find something to excite you within this broad range of programs. Thank you for your interest in our department. If you would like additional information, please feel free to contact me.
