Conference trip

The conference all-day trip to the mountains will take place on June 24, 2009 (Wednesday). We will visit the Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) and the nearby resort town Estes Park.

After arriving at RMNP, we will spend three hours near Bear Lake (elevation 9000 ft), probably the most spectacular area of the park. Those who do not wish to hike can stroll around the lake and visit the nearby Alberta Falls. Most people will probably enjoy a nice hike to the Dream and Emerald Lakes. Very strong hikers can complete the loop Bear Lake, Dream Lake, Lake Haiyaha, entrance to Glacier Gorge, Alberta Falls, Bear Lake. There will likely be traces of snow on the ground near Emerald Lake and Lake Haiyaha. We strongly recommend good hiking shoes and a wind jacket.

In the early afternoon we will ride up near the continental divide and Alpine Lodge and spend some time at high elevation (12000 ft). On the way back we stop in Estes Park for two hours to eat, shop, etc.

The planned program can change due to weather conditions.
