Basic orientation on campus

Denver is a city built on a generally perpendicular grid. You can keep track of direction by keeping in mind that the mountains are always to the west of you.

A prominent orientation point near DU campus is the intersection of South University Blvd and East Evans Ave. Let us call this point P.

Many of you stay in Nelson Hall (pictured on the left). Everyone who purchased a meal plan will dine in the Nelson Hall cafeteria. Nelson Hall address is 2222 South High St. Check-in time is 5 pm. Check-out time is 10 am.

Nelson Hall can be reached from P by going west on Evans, turning left (south) on South High St and proceeding on South High St for one block. The parking lot for Nelson hall is located on the north side of the building. The main entrance to Nelson hall is from the east, just below the tower. The reception desk is reached through the main entrance.

Some people stay in Centennial Towers (pictured on the left). The Centennial Towers address is 1770 South Williams St. Check-in time is 5 pm. Check-out time is 10 am.

Centennial Towers can be reached from P by going west on Evans, turning right (north) on South High St and proceeding on South High St for three blocks. Centennial Towers consist of two high-rise buildings but they have a common area where the reception desk can be found.

Warning: On the way along South High St to Centennial Towers you will pass Centennial Halls (located to the east of South High St) which are identical in appearance to Centennial Towers.

The registration desk and lecture room is located in Olin Hall (pictured on the left). Olin Hall address is 2190 East Iliff Ave.

You can reach Olin Hall from any of the above campus locations by going south through the campus until you reach Iliff Ave. You will then see the copper dome of Olin Hall. The main entrance to Olin Hall is from the east.

The conference registration desk is located in the Olin Hall rotunda. It will be open July 2 (5-9pm), July 3 (8-8:30am) and throughout the first two days of the conference.

The conference lecture room (Olin Hall 205) can be reached from the rotunda by flight of stairs or by elevator.

The Mathematics Department building is John Greene Hall (pictured on the left). A computer lab where you will have daily access to the Internet will be located in John Greene Hall. (More details later.)

John Green Hall address is 2360 S Gaylord St, and it is located just across a parking lot to the east of Olin Hall.

These buildings will be marked by a blue conference poster.

Getting to campus from the airport

Denver is served by Denver International Airport (DIA). The distance from DIA to the University is approximately 28 miles. There are three ways to get to the University from DIA:

  • Taxi at approximately $60/trip is rather expensive for one person. It is a good idea to confirm the price when you enter the taxi.
  • ABC Shuttle offers a flat rate of $15/person from DIA to the University of Denver campus. The rate decreases slightly if more than one person is traveling at the same time. The shuttle website http://www.abcshuttle.com/ asks that passengers call from the baggage-claim area to get instructions for meeting the shuttle. There are phones in the area. The toll-free numbers are 1-800-288-0668 or 1-800-569-1876. A place on the shuttle may be reserved by email at reserve@abcshuttle.com, but this is not necessary.
  • Denver public transporation (RTD – Regional Transportation District) operates the RTD SkyRide from DIA to the Stapleton Transfer Center at a cost of $6/person. The exact fare amount is required as you board the bus or you may purchase a ticket at the RTD desk inside the DIA terminal. This option is inexpensive but somewhat complicated and time-consuming. We do not recommend it. Two transfers are required to get to the University of Denver. Request a transfer at the time of boarding the bus at DIA. At the Stapleton Transfer Center, transfer to a Southbound RTD Bus #65. Additional fare payment will be required along with the transfer. Exit this bus at the "Monaco and Evans" stop. Proceed to the bus stop at the Northwest corner of the intersection. Take a Westbound RTD Bus #21. Exit this bus at the "University and Evans" stop.
Getting to campus by car
Here are directions how to get to the University of Denver by car. All directions end at Nelson Hall. If you need to get to Centennial Towers, consult the campus map.
  • From I-70
Take the I-25 South exit. Drive south on I-25 to the University Boulevard South exit (205b). Exit I-25 and drive south on University Boulevard for about 1/2 mile to Iliff Street. Drive west on Iliff Street for two blocks to South High Street. Turn right (north) Nelson Hall is on your right. Parking is limited. Check the campus maps for details on where to park. If you choose to park on the street, be aware that there is a "one hour" limit for parking in many areas around the campus.
  • From DIA
Exit DIA on Peña Boulevard. Follow the signs to Interstate 70 going west. This will be a ramp exit to the right. Watch for the I-225 ramp going south which will come very quickly. This is the lane on the right but to the extreme right. Drive South on I-225 for several miles (approximately 5) to the Iliff exit. Go west on Iliff for several miles - you will cross Peoria, Havana, Parker Road. Iliff veers to the right just before Quebec (there is shopping center mall on your right) and becomes Evans. Continue west on Evans. In about two miles you will cross Colorado Boulevard. The next major intersection less than two miles further will be University Boulevard. You are now at the University of Denver. Turn left (south) onto University Boulevard for several blocks. The second stoplight is Iliff Street. Turn right and drive west on Iliff Street for two blocks to South High Street. Turn right (north), Nelson Hall is on your right.
  • From I-25 from South of Denver
Drive north on I-25 to the University Boulevard South exit. Exit I-25 and drive south on University Boulevard for about 1/2 mile to Iliff Street. Drive west on Iliff Street for two blocks to South High Street. Turn right (north) Nelson Hall is on your right.
How to register

The conference registration desk is located in Olin Hall (see above) and, once again, it will be opened July 2 (5-9pm), July 3 (8-8:30am), and throughout the first two days of the conference. Please stop by as soon as possible.

You will receive a registration packet with the usual content (brochure of abstracts, some local info, receipt for your payment, etc.)

You can make payments by cash (US dollars only) or check (US banks only).
